Project Case: Interior & Exterior Decoration of an International Grand Hotel in Dubai

Project Profile

  • Location: Dubai
  • Date: May 2024
  • Project Area: 95,000 ㎡
  • Product: Grey Travertine Finish Flexible Stone
  • Core Challenge: Numerous complex and curved surfaces (as shown in the image: giant cylinders, circular cantilevered counters, and multi-curved shapes). Traditional rigid materials cannot achieve perfect conformity, and the seams severely compromise the luxury feel of a high-end hotel.
  • Our Countermeasure: Developed a high-flexibility Flexible Stone emulsion, forming a series of core patent achievements, perfectly achieving large-curvature column wrapping and seamless jointing.

Background & Challenges

This international grand hotel in Dubai utilizes a large amount of premium grey travertine texture (as shown in the image) in its interior design, aiming to create an extremely luxurious, grand, and naturally breathable space. The core visual focal points in the image—the giant circular ceiling, thick pillars, and the circular buffet counter—are all wrapped in travertine material.

However, the massive project volume of 95,000 square meters and extremely complex irregular structures brought three major pain points:

  1. The “Curved Surface Achilles’ Heel” of Rigid Materials: Neither natural travertine nor ceramic tiles can bend naturally. To wrap the circular giant pillars and curved counters in the image, small blocks must be spliced. This not only results in highly unsightly seams that destroy the luxurious continuity of the travertine texture but also incurs astonishingly high costs for waterjet cutting and manual splicing.
  2. Dead Weight and Safety Risks: If dry-hanging stone were used for curved column wrapping, the heavy keel and the stone’s own weight would drastically increase the building’s burden, posing an even higher risk on cantilevered circular structures.
  3. Extreme Visual Requirements of High-End Projects: Dubai hotels benchmark against top-tier luxury, requiring materials to achieve “visual seamlessness” during curved transitions, without hollowing or peeling over the long term.

The Solution: Core Patented Emulsion Conquering Irregular Shapes

Facing the “unsolvable” curved seam dilemma, Guangdong Fortune Stone New Material Co., Ltd. delivered a flawless answer relying on independent hardcore technology:

  1. High-Flexibility Emulsion Patent: The technical team deeply developed the “High-Flexibility Emulsion and Its Preparation Method” (Application No.: CN202610376325.2). Through molecular-level reconstruction of the polymer core-shell structure, it endows Flexible Stone with extreme ductility like leather. During construction, Flexible Stone can smoothly and seamlessly conform to cylinders, curved counters, and complex irregular ceilings like wallpaper, perfectly presenting the continuous texture of travertine.
  2. Custom Color-Matched Minimal Seam System: At necessary concealed joints, combined with our custom color-matched joint filler, it achieves a minimal seam effect almost invisible to the naked eye, completely bidding farewell to the “mosaic feel” of traditional stone.
  3. Rapid Customized Delivery: Facing a massive project of 95,000 square meters, we provided systematic delivery from mold customization and mass production to on-site thin-bed application, greatly shortening the construction period of the high-end hotel.

Why Flexible Stone? Four Hardcore Data Points

  • ✓ Extreme Flexibility: Perfectly passes the 200mm diameter cylinder bending test, defying any complex curved or cylindrical shapes in the image without cracking or delamination.
  • ✓ Ultra-Lightweight: Areal density of just 3.96kg/㎡. It does not increase the load on building cantilevers and ceiling structures, ensuring absolute safety in public spaces.
  • ✓ SGS Class A2 Fireproof: Achieves the SGS certified A2-s1, d0 non-combustible standard, meeting the stringent fire safety and security codes of top-tier Dubai hotels.
  • ✓ Highly Durable: Boasts 1500-hour artificial weathering resistance. Even in desert climates with large diurnal temperature differences, it maintains stable physical properties and a luxurious travertine texture.

Project Outcome

Currently, the project has been successfully delivered and put into use, becoming another benchmark for luxury hotel decoration in Dubai.
The hotel design director marveled after visiting the completed site: “In this space dominated by irregular shapes, Fortune Stone’s Flexible Stone showed astonishing expressiveness. Those giant pillars and island counters that originally gave the construction team headaches now present an extreme, seamless travertine wrapping effect. The high-flexibility patented technology has perfectly grounded the designer’s whimsical ideas.”
